Cyberia

Cyberia is the name of an internet cafe In London, founded in 1994, providing desktop computers with full internet access. Cyberia is also a concept referred to by anthropologist Arturo Escobar in a co-authored article Welcome to Cyberia: Notes on the Anthropology of Cyberculture [and Comments and Reply] . In this work, Escobar presents technologies as non neutral force, creating a new social order which Escobar calls cyberculture. The focus is on the human-machine dynamics of societal, cultural and semiotic arenas where a variety of elements and agents interact, forming new ways of living, working, codifying and exchanging meaning.
